Our Story
Greenerways Organic® was born out of a desire to find safer, eco-friendly alternatives to conventional bug sprays. As parents, we grew concerned about repeatedly applying harsh chemicals like DEET directly onto our children’s delicate skin. There had to be a better way!
We partnered with leading entomologists and chemists to develop plant-based formulas that naturally deter mosquitoes, ticks, and other biting insects. It took years of research and testing to perfect our unique blends of essential oils and botanical extracts. Our rigorous standards ensure each batch is free of synthetic chemicals, parabens, phthalates, and artificial fragrances.
In 2010, we finally shared Greenerways Organic® with the world. We started small, selling at local farmer’s markets and online. As word spread, demand for our products grew rapidly. Meet Our Founders
Sarah and Mark Johnson
Greenerways Organic® was founded by Sarah and Mark Johnson, health-conscious parents on a mission to protect their family from dangerous chemicals.
During a 2008 trip to Costa Rica, heavy rains brought swarms of mosquitoes. Sarah was 7 months pregnant with their first child. Despite dousing themselves in DEET, she got dozens of itchy bites.
Back home, Sarah’s doctor warned DEET could pose risks during pregnancy. She and Mark were alarmed and began researching alternatives. They learned the EPA doesn’t require safety testing for chemicals like DEET. Usage has skyrocketed with little scrutiny of long-term effects.
Sarah and Mark knew there must be a natural way to repel bugs without toxic chemicals. They partnered with top entomologists to identify plant oils and extracts that safely deter insects. It took over 18 months to develop the first Greenerways Organic® formula.
Today, Sarah and Mark continue leading our product development and overseeing operations. They strive to set the standard for safe, sustainable bug control products.
